Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bosch 4412 12-Inch Dual-Bevel Slide Miter SawCustomer Review: A huge Bosch fan was very dissapointed but is now happy Summary: 5 Stars
Well, get this! Bosch cares. A Bosch rep. contacted me obvious concerned about my negative rating of my first 4412. He claimed that improvements had been made and that he would like to send me a new 4412. I welcomed his offer and received a new saw 2 week later. New arbor bearings have eliminated the play problem, I have installed a room of 8" crown moulding with no problems. The Quick Release Depth Stop is also fixed. The service center never did charge me for my old broken fence even without bringing them the saw. The fence casting is still light but I assume breaking it was a fluke. As far as the dust bag I understand the limitations that a sliding compound miter saw has with dust collection. Now, this is what I call customer service that Bosch can be proud of. It has been refreshing to feel that a manufactor cares and wants to make things right. Thank you Bosch!Old review follows: I have a shop full of Bosch tools and are very happy with them expect the 4412 saw. I got the 4412 in February and have used it quite a bit. I have several issues with the saw which makes my give it the 1 star rating. 1. The castings are way to flimsy, my fence just broke as a piece of oak got caught and went flying. Yes, I'm glad it hit the fence and not me but the aluminum casting is poor. 2. The Quick Release Depth Stop Button keeps slipping making this feature absolutely worthless. 3. The dust bag is a joke. 80% of the dust never gets in the bag. 4. There is too much play in the arbor bearings, making tight crown moulding corner cuts difficult. 5. The Bosch Service Center (Dallas) will not cover my fence under warranty unless I bring the whole saw in, well I'm not going to do that as it requires a tear down of my miter setup (I simply made a temporary fence of a good peice of cherry). I figure that I'll pay for the new fence ($33.00) and write this review instead of tearing my setup down. Yes this saw has some nice features, but robustness, functionalty and service are a must at my place and the 4412 fail to deliver in these areas.
Description of Bosch 4412 12-Inch Dual-Bevel Slide Miter SawIncludes 12" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw w/ Upfront Controls - 4412-RT, Wrench Set, Tool-Free Vertical Work Clamp - MS1226, Dust Bag - MS1225 This dual-bevel sliding compound miter saw from Bosch offers as much capacity as possible combined with a host of features that make it easy to work with. It miters 52 degrees to the left and 60 to the right, and it bevels from 0 to 47 degrees in either direction. We really like the front-bevel lock lever on this saw, which eliminates the need to reach around to the back to make bevel changes. The base is 25-1/2 inches long and has sliding extensions on each side that bring the total length up to 40 inches. There's a 4-1/2-by-11-3/4-inch-long sliding fence on each side that allows for cutting crown molding up to 6 inches vertically or up to 10-1/4-inch crown molding laid flat. The saw also has the capacity to cut up to 4-by-12-inch stock at 90 degrees, 4-by-8-1/2-inch stock at a 45-degree miter, and 2-3/4-by-8-1/2-inch stock at a 45-degree miter and a 45-degree left bevel. The four-position rotating handle is another great innovation on this saw. Some people prefer a horizontal handle and others like a vertical or diagonal handle, so Bosch designed this saw to work for everyone. They've also made the lock-off and release buttons ambidextrous out of consideration for lefties. The saw performs as smoothly and accurately as you would expect from a top-of-the-line Bosch tool and it's built to stand up to tough job site conditions. --Brian Trinen
