Tools and Hardware Reviews of DEWALT DW745 10-Inch Compact Job-Site Table Saw with 16-Inch Max Rip Capacity

Customer Review: Modified this Saw to support 24.5" Rip capacity
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this saw, especially the fence.

Looking at the fence support, I could see Dewalt limited it to 16" in order to sell their 24" capacity saws for more. I took the two fence bolts from the left side and mounted them 4" over to the right of the standard fence bolt locations on the right side. This gave me 4 inches more. Then I removed both rails, and notched additional V's into the rail to the full width of the rail, leaving the very last tooth long to prevent the rail from rolling off the wheels. It took about 2 hours to do the V's with a Hackzall, file them smooth, and remount the rails. That gave me another 4.5 inches. I accurately marked pencil markings on the ruler to extend to 20.5". This combined with the +4 inches from using the second set of bolts gives me up to 24.5 inches. I have ripped lots of MDF cabinet doors using this, and even 4x8 sheet stock in half, with a helper for support. Works great.

Customer Review: My first impressions
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this saw for Father's Day. I finally had a chance to play with it today. Here is my first impression.
Based on the reviews of others here, I use the miter gauge that came with saw to hold down papers and I use the Incra gauge I ordered to use with this saw. I'm glad I did as it is a seriously accurate device.
When I first turned this saw on, I was surprised at how loud it is (and I wear a hearing aid). However I believe I can live with that. I made a few cuts in some scrap wood and was impressed at how smoothly the included blade moved through the wood. The sawn edges were nice and smooth. Not bad for a 24 tooth general purpose blade. I made some crosscuts then flipped the piece I cut off over and held it against the other side of the cut to see how straight the cut was. The cut edges fit perfectly and the board was straight across at top and bottom. This saw and the Incra gauge make a killer combination. I tried a 45 degree miter cut then held the cut edges of the miter together to form a 90 degree angle and checked for squareness. OK I could see a bit of light at one end of the square but it was close. The miter joint itself was nice and tight with no gaps.
So far I'm more than happy with my Father's Day gift.

Customer Review: Nice saw
Summary: 4 Stars

This saw is a real nice piece of equipment. The portabality feature is what I was looking for and it is good. I did do some reading regarding several other saws and because of the fence comments being a little negative on several other saws and the comments on this saw being real good I did acquire it. The fence design is much better than I expected. The fence sits nice and square with the blade and quite accurate. This saw is empressive right out of the box.
And the portable fold up stand has longer legs on the rear with rubber feet so when you push your material into the saw it stays nice and firm and does not slide or tip backwards.

Customer Review: Over priced plastic saw
Summary: 3 Stars

If you like plastic (to be fair, hard poli carb), this is the saw for you. I am surprised by the good reviews to date on this saw to date.

Pros: 10" blade and decent motor. Small enough to fit on 24" shelves and very portable.

For the price I think the saw is inferior to Rigid or Ryobi at Home Depot and an indication that DeWALT is very proud of their name. If I had paid retail for this I think I would have gone out and shot my self.

The movable fence isn't bad but the clamps that hold it down to the rail are pot metal clips which will eventually loosen with no way to adjust them. This is what happened to the store model.

I kept the saw because it was the best unit in it's size class. It has to fit in my garage cabinets for storage. If you don't have that issue, reconsider the brand for this tool. I love DeWalt cordless system and their sliding compound saw, only way to fly.

Customer Review: Perfect for the remodeler / renovator
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm a apartment building remodeler and needed a portable table saw for trim and light carpentry work. I purchased the Bosch 4000-09 because of its portability. In practice, the Bosch was way too big & cumbersome for small jobs and doesn't fit in my Prius. I think the Bosch is a much better table saw with a wider range of applications. The DeWalt DW745 however is the one I actually use. The DeWalt is smooth, exact, powerful and truly portable. I highly recommend it for those who need a high-quality portable table saw.
