Compact, Yet Powerfully Designed Table Saw

At the heart of the Jet 708482 ProShop 10-inch table saw is the operating mechanism that places the 1-3/4-horsepower motor inside of the cabinet. This high-power motor has a stable 3,600 rpm arbor speed, which is ideal for cutting wood of all kinds. This massive cast-iron mechanism is extraordinarily rigid and substantially increases the vibration-dampening mass directly below the table, resulting in super smooth, super quiet operation. Jet also uses totally enclosed, fan-cooled motors that prevent overheating and dust infiltration, resulting in longer motor life and reduced risk of a fire hazard than an open-motor housing.

A dual-drive belt system transfers motor power to the 5/8-inch-diameter arbor that is located in a short, super rigid cast-iron arm. Blade height adjustments are remarkably smooth in part because the blade arm is isolated from the weight of the motor and undercarriage. The arbor was designed with sufficient length to handle most stacked 6- or 8-inch-diameter dado sets at a full 13/16-inch width.

The blade height and tilt mechanism provides maximum cut depths of 3-1/8 inches at 0 degrees and 2-1/8 inches at 45 degrees. The mechanism tilts the blade to the left, away from the fence so scrap falls onto the table, away from the blade.

The extended cabinet of the Jet 708482 replaces the open-leg assembly common to contractor saws with four channel-shaped legs that are extremely rigid and easy to install. The stand is made of a tougher-gauge metal and has a 4-inch dust port for easy connection to a dust collector. Another user-friendly feature is the quick-connect electrical plug right on the saw that lets you change blades without having to search out the wall socket every time.

ProShop Fence System with T-Square Design

The fence system is built around a heavy-gauge steel tube and T-square-style base rather than an aluminum extrusion, with a pair of 2-1/2-inch-tall aluminum faces flanking the steel tube. In addition to providing a straight, smooth surface for guiding material, the overall square shape of the fence makes building and using shop-built jigs easy.

A slot along the top of the aluminum fence faces accepts common 1/4- to 20-hex head bolts to make installing shop-made jigs fast, easy, and very secure. The T-square base has easy-to-use adjustments that make aligning the fence parallel to the miter slots and its faces square to the table a fast, precise task.

The fence system is supported front and back on heavy steel rails and guide tube. An adjustable height pad at the rear of the fence allows it to glide across the table smoothly. The 20-inch-by-27-inch cast-iron table surface is precision ground to ensure it is perfectly flat, and the useable surface expands to 44 inches by 27 inches with the extension wings.
